Ki-heun Shur taught as a professor in the Department of Visual Design at Gachon University (1988-2018) and served as the dean of the College of Art and Design. As a designer and creative director, he established a design studio ‘I&I’ (1988-2016). Mr. Shur has designed over 2000 books and numerous monumental publica-tions (1979~present). In addition, he served as president of the Korean Society of Basic Art and Design (2012- 2014) and president of the Visual Information Design Association of Korea (2006-2007). He won the Korea Design Awards (Geunjeong Packaging, Medal for Merit, 2015 and Korea Culture and Art Award (Art Category President Award, 2008). In 2018, Kiheun Shur held a solo exhibition at the Interpaper gallery of Doosung Paper C.O. called Design School, Kiheun Shur, which summarizes his comprehensive design work archives.

1988부터 2018년까지 서기흔은 가천대 예술대학 시각디자인학과 교수를 재직하였고, 미술 디자인 대학 학장을 역임하였다. I&I 디자인 스튜디오를 설립하여 (1988~2016년) 크리에이티브 디렉터로서 2000여 권의 단행본 북디자인 및 수많은 기념비적인 출판물 디자인을 하여왔다 (1979~현재). 또한, 한국기초조형학회 회장과 (2012~2014년) 한국시각정보디자인협회 회장을 역임하였다 (2006~2007년). 대한민국 디자인대상 (근정포장, 공로부문 훈장, 2015년)과 대한민국 문화예술상 (미술부문, 대통령상, 2008년)을 수상하였다. 2018년에는 그간의 작업을 정리한 ‘디자인 학교 서기흔’ 개인전을 두성종이 인터페이퍼 갤러리에서 강연과 함께 개최하였다.
